Celebrating a Decade of Impact with the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank.

As we approach our ten year anniversary, we here, at St. Louis Area Diaper Bank, reflect on the profound impact we’ve had on the lives of families in our community over the last nine years. This year, our focus on dignity has been at the forefront of our mission. We believe that every child and individual deserves to start life with dignity, and that begins with providing them the sufficient amount of diapers and period supplies.

Through your support, we’ve been able to uphold this commitment by distributing almost 3.5 million diapers and 1.5 million period supplies to those in need. By doing so, we’ve empowered parents to care for their children without the added burden of diaper insecurity, or menstruators going on with their every day, and allowing them to maintain their dignity and pride.

1 in 2 Families Struggle to Afford Diapers

The year-end highlights a critical issue: an alarming increase in diaper need affecting almost half of families (47%) in 2023, up significantly from one-third in 2010. This distressing situation leads families to make tough choices, with 46% reducing essential expenditures in areas like entertainment, food, and utilities. The emotional toll is significant, as diaper need leads to stress and feelings of inadequacy among parents.

This issue spans all income levels, affecting 66% of low-income28% of middle-income, and 6% of high-income families. It also intersects with food insecurity, with 28% of those in need skipping meals. Your monetary donation is crucial in addressing this problem and supporting families, alleviating their stress and financial burdens. You can make a meaningful impact and brighten the future for our community.

Tax Credits

We’re thrilled to announce that the state of Missouri has designated $100,000 in tax credits for the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank under the Diaper Bank Tax Credit initiative, detailed in Section 135.621 RSMo.

We are able to do this work because of our generous donors. We are members of the National Diaper Bank Network which allows us to purchase diapers at a deep discount of $0.16 a diaper. The average diaper cost is anywhere from $0.23 to $0.60 a diaper, depending on size and brand. We also work with other suppliers to purchase in bulk, which is how we are able to serve about 65,000 babies a year and continue growing.
